Obituary for Daniel Raymond Labbe
Gainsville, FL. - Daniel Raymond Labbe, 72, a resident of Jay, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, following complications from Covid-19 infection. He was born April 20, 1949, in Jay, Maine, the son of Emile Labbe and Rose (Cornelio) Labbe. Dan graduated from Jay High School in the class of 1968. After graduation, he served in the US Army in Vietnam. On August 17, 1974, he married Donna Ventrella at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. They were married for 48 years and devotedly raised two daughters. Dan attended CMVTI and earned an Associates Degree in building construction. He was employed at the Jay Paper Mill and did part-time carpentry work, including building his family home in Jay with Paul Begin.
Dan loved supporting his daughters at sports and activities, spending time in his workshop and mowing the lawn with his John Deere. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, including spending winters in the Villages Florida, playing golf, making furniture, and drawing/painting. Dan was very patriotic, great at turning out hilarious one-liners, and never complained despite dealing with complications from type 1 diabetes. He was filled with gratitude to his brother Neil for donating his kidney to him for a transplant in 2012. Dan always believed one must keep moving forward in life.
He is survived by his wife Donna, his two daughters, Karla Labbe of Hillsborough, North Carolina and Karyn Labbe of College Station, Texas; his sister, Brenda Drottar and her husband Peter, his brother Neil Labbe and his wife Cindy, his brother Alan Labbe and his wife Kerry; his sister-in-law Terry Leclerc and her husband Dee, his brother-in-law Michael Ventrella and his wife Janet, his sister-in-law Nancy Anctil and her husband Dan; his godchildren Krystal Leclerc Wettstone and Olivia Robichaud; many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his father Emile Labbe, his mother Rose (Cornelio) Labbe, his father-in-law Egidio (Geo) Ventrella, his mother-in-law Betty (Pike) Ventrella and his brother Roland Labbe. Visiting hours will be held from 4pm-7pm on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Interment with full Military Honors will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park Street, Livermore Falls, Maine immediately following the funeral Mass.
