Obituary for Guylene R. Freeman (Gay)

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” ~ Proverbs 31:28
Ma, Mumski, Grammy, Great Grammy are all beloved names for Guylene Roberta (Gay) Freeman. Family and faith in God were at the heart of her life. She was a longtime resident of North Monmouth, Maine, and at the age 81, on July 4, 2022, she was called to her eternal home with Jesus. She was born on February 3, 1941, in Weeks Mills, Maine to Guy and Ellen Gay and grew up as the only girl with her six older brothers. She married Clarence Freeman Jr. almost 64 years ago on August 23, 1958, and together they raised four children. She was a full-time housewife, mother, and later worked for many years as a sewer at the Carlton Woolen Mills in Winthrop. Everything she did was for the benefit of those she loved!
Guylene was devoted to her family. She and Charlie (the one and only love of her life) labored long and hard side by side building a shared life, a house, and home together. The kids came along quickly, and those years were full. She enjoyed taking her children anywhere & everywhere, especially to the beach, and regularly transported them to VBS, Sunday School, and supported involvement in sports and afterschool activities, even if it meant picking them up in an old yellow dump truck! Later as each child built their own homes, she loyally showed up to lend a hand in any way she could, often with a paint brush. Guylene engaged vigorously and joyfully in the lives of her husband and family! She fully enjoyed indulging her grandchildren and great grandchildren and blessed them all with many beautiful and fond memories, as well as life lessons they will treasure.
Guylene enjoyed attending Victory Baptist Church in Winthrop where she worshipped and served the Lord Jesus. She spent many happy years in the nursery caring for little ones and formed many cherished relationships over decades of attendance.
Guylene believed the promises she found in her faith in Jesus. She would say, “I know He is with me.” In the past years with limited mobility, she rarely complained about her losses. Instead, she consistently radiated a beautiful smile, accepted life as it came, fully enjoyed the company of visitors, or watching old westerns, her favorites! And she loved going for joy rides in the car with anyone who would take her, especially if it was to see her family or go to Marden’s. She lived her life as a beautiful example of a woman who loved the Lord and loved her family.
Guylene is survived by her faithful husband, Clarence Freeman Jr. of North Monmouth; brothers Harvard Gay and wife Christine of Vassalboro, Roland Gay and wife Hilda of Weeks Mills, her daughter Tammy Fereshetian and husband Al of Turner, and sons; Glenn Freeman and wife Lisa of Fayette, Vincent Freeman and wife Jamie of Turner, Joseph Freeman and wife Judi of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren; Margaret Freeman, Nicholas Freeman, Catherine Beaulieu, Vanessa Mallory, Lauren Fereshetian, Justin Fereshetian, Allison Getch, Jenny Timberlake, Jacob Freeman, and Joni McMann, and 10 adorable great grandchildren.
Guylene is predeceased by her parents and four brothers; Gerald Gay, Darryl Gay, Neil Gay, and Dennis Gay.
Words cannot express the gratitude the Freeman family has for Androscoggin Home Health & Hospice who truly represent God’s hands and feet here on earth.
A graveside burial will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11am at the Leeds Plains Cemetery, Plains Road, Leeds, Maine, with a reception to follow at Victory Baptist Church, 1170 US Route 202, Winthrop, Maine.
