Obituary for John F. Newman Jr.

Livermore – John F. Newman, Jr., 88, of Livermore, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at his home following a lingering illness. He was born on April 23, 1934, in Owls Head, Maine, the son of John F. Newman, Sr. and Gladys (Thrull) Newman. John was a 1953 graduate of Rockland High School and attended University of Maine Orono for agriculture. On January 19, 1953, he married Doris Underhill, and they had three children. He later married Linda Brown on July 5, 1986, in Leeds. John was owner and operator of C.N. Turner Farms, where he raised laying hens, distributed eggs, apples, along with fish from the Newfoundland fish processing plant. He had also worked at Hillcrest Farms as a manager, breeder, and grower. He was a former member of the Turner Planning Board, Livermore Planning Board, Maine Poultry Association, and the United Egg Association. He enjoyed traveling, stopping for his daily coffee, doughnut, and conversation, joking that there wasn’t a doughnut shop on his travels that he didn’t know, honeybees and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife, Linda Newman of Livermore, sons, John “Rocky” Newman and wife Mary of Leeds, Rodney Newman and wife Brenda of Livermore, daughter, Jill Cyrway and husband Scott of Albion, stepdaughter, Katherine Heikkinen and husband Stephen of South Paris, stepson, Kevin Poland and wife Cathleen of Lewiston, two boys that he had cared for over the years, Steven Moore and David Moore of Livermore, 12 grandchildren 7 great-grandchildren, sisters, Laura, Nancy, Jean, Joan and Mary. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Joseph, Paul and Peter and his sister, Ellen.
