Lewiston – Joseph Martin Groomes, Jr., 70, a resident of Livermore passed away, Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was born February 29, 1952, in Lewiston, Maine, the son of Joseph M. Sr. and Evelyn A. (Rich) Groomes. He grew up on Baldwin Street in Livermore Falls and was a resident on Brettun’s Pond for over 40 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Livermore Falls High School where he was known as an incredible athlete. He excelled in baseball, football, and basketball, and was an incredible Roller Skater at Bear Pond Park. Joe worked at International Paper Company and later Verso Paper in Jay on Paper Machine #3. He was a member of AMVETS Post #33 in Jay, and was a past Commander of the Sons of AMVETS Squad 33. He was also a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Joe loved the outdoors, especially going hunting, fishing, and spending time at camp. He had a passion for motorcycles. He had an infectious laugh and smile. Joe’s biggest accomplishment was his son Joey. He is survived by his son Joseph J. Groomes and his wife Rebecca of Livermore Falls, grandsons Jonathan Groomes, Thomas Hebert, and Miles Hebert, sister Lucille Groomes of Exeter, NH., brothers Mark Groomes and companion Monica Brewer of Nebraska and Stephen Groomes and wife Cindy of Livermore Falls, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
