Jay – It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Leo P. Hemminger, 59, of Jay. He passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, at his home in Jay. He was born on August 1, 1963, in Augusta, the son of Bruce and Patricia Hennessy. He was a 1981 graduate of Livermore Falls High School, where he excelled in football and went on to win the Mountain Valley Conference Championship with his teammates and friends. After high school Leo joined the Army. He worked as a Paper Mill Worker first in Rumford at Mead and later in Jay for Androscoggin Mill-Verso Paper. Leo was a member of the Jay-Livermore Falls Hunting Club. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed anything he could do outside. He was an amazing hunter and would share the deer meat he got every year, even from the smallest deer. He enjoyed fishing and could out fish some of the best fishermen around. He enjoyed his hikes up Tumbledown Mountain and spending time at Echo Lake. He enjoyed having a good time and being with his family and friends. Leo was always ready for the next adventure, wherever it may take him. He had a big heart, even though he could be stubborn. He loved his parents, sisters, brothers, daughters, and grandsons more than anything. His grandsons affectionately called him Grumpy. He taught his daughters how to be strong and to persevere. He was a great friend to many and will be dearly missed.
