Obituary for Lester J. Yager Jr.

Augusta – Lester J. Yager, Jr., 80, a resident of Maine Veterans Home in Augusta, passed away Tuesday, December 7th at his residence. He was born March 9, 1941 in Liverpool, New York, the son of Lester J. Yager, Sr. and Elizabeth (Snyder) Yager. He attended schools in Syracuse and Rochester, New York. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from December 14, 1964 to November 25, 1967. Lester worked at Lockheed Martin for 28 years retiring on March 31, 1996. He married Beverly Jean Hoffman. They enjoyed traveling, and their home in Myrtle Beach, SC. For many years before her passing in 2002. He later met his longtime companion Lydia Mason. Together they enjoyed traveling together Lester loved playing poker and cribbage and even won a 4th of July cribbage tournament one year with family and friends in Maine, he visited every casinos on the east coast and Las Vegas. Lester loved every puppy regardless of the age, he considered them all puppies. He will be remembered as a loving and kindhearted man with a great sense of humor who loved to make people laugh. Often making comments like “I have the body of a GOD” and “being this handsome is a curse”. He is survived by his longtime companion, Lydia Mason of Augusta, her daughters Deborah Gile and husband Dwight, their children Garrett Gile and Leslie Martin and husband Michael and their son Trent all of Wales, Diane Friedman of Chevy Chase, MD., and her daughter Zoey Friedman of Silver Springs, MD., and his beloved puppy “Bernie”. Never having children of his own, Lester felt blessed to have daughters, a son-in-law, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild; they also felt blessed to have such a wonderful man come into their lives. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Beverly, and his siblings. The family would like to thank the staff of Maine Veterans Home for their care and devotion.
