Auburn – Lola May (Richardson) Budek, 76, a former resident of Turner, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022, at Schooner Estates Memory Care in Auburn. She was born October 20, 1945, at her family’s home in Wellington, Maine, the daughter of Elmer E. and Annie A. (Cook) Richardson. Lola was a 1963 graduate of Leavitt Institute. On October 11, 1964, in Auburn, she married Alexander Thomas Budek. Lola was a Navy wife and traveled from California to Mississippi with her husband during his Naval career. They returned to Maine living in Lisbon Falls and finally to her hometown, Turner. Lola was a homemaker but held many part-time jobs. She loved to sew, knit, and quilt; she worked in a fabric store. She loved the outdoors; she worked at Leavitt orchards and told stories of driving the tractors that hauled the apples in the orchard. Lola loved to garden, raising vegetables, raspberries, and flowers. She loved to read mysteries and collected “Miss Read” books; she served as a Trustee of Turner Library for many years. Lola was always ready to volunteer for the community and family members. Anyone who needed cheering up or a thank you often got a batch of homemade cookies. She was happy to be in her hometown for the latter part of her life and devoted herself to caring for her husband when he was ill and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Thomas Budek (wife Trudi) of Turner, and Deborah Christian (husband Hugh) of Amherst, NH, her grandchildren, Jason, Katie, Ryan, and Edgar, her great-grandchildren, Joe, Jack, Elise, Nolan, and Ian. Her siblings, Eva Leppanen, Joan Bryant-Deschenes (husband Roger Deschenes), George Richardson (wife Linda), and sister-in-law Mary Richardson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Alexander, and her siblings, Sherman (Scamp), Louise, and Floyd Richardson; her brothers-in-law Reino (Ray) Leppanen and Lloyd Bryant. The family would like to thank the following people for helping her after the death of her husband and as she battled Alzheimer’s disease. Miles Tobey for plowing her driveway, for which she paid him with fresh home baked cookies. Her niece, Kelly Richardson, for taking her to appointments and grocery shopping and most importantly for visiting her and taking her out to get ice cream. To Marie Jordan of Turner, for checking on her daily, helping her around the house and making sure she ate nutritious meals.
