Obituary for Richard L. Randolph
Auburn – Richard L. Randolph, 81, a resident of Greene, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Hospice House in Auburn, with his loving family by his side. He was born November 11, 1941, in Agra, India, the son of Frank C. Randolph and Marguerite (Melanson) Randolph. He lived near the Himalayan mountains in India before moving to Maine in 1946. He attended grade school in Greene, where he met his wife, Esther. Richard graduated from Lewiston High School, class of 1960, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education in 1965. On December 15, 1961, he married Esther Bubier, and together they raised their loving family of three daughters.
After a short career in teaching, Richard discovered his real passion was designing and building homes, much of the time with his good friend Paul Gagne. Starting with his own, he built houses for his family and many others. Additionally, he was co-owner of Randolph’s RV in Greene with his brother Mike and loved fixing and restoring recreational vehicles. Richard enjoyed traveling with his kids and grandchildren in their renovated bus and spending time at their camp on Allen Pond.
Richard had a great love for his family, nature, and animals. Richard held his family and friends close, would help anyone in need, and could fix or solve anything with his ingenuity and creative thinking. Over the years, Richard cared for many elderly family members at his home, including his beloved wife, Esther. His grandchildren call him the “Best Grampa Ever” who could do anything and everything, and they feel lucky to have such loving and fun memories to reflect on.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Randolph, his three daughters, Wanda, Sandy, Carol, sons-in-law, Fred and Mark, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his brother, Michael and his wife Cecile, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents. The family would like to thank Richard and Esther’s caregivers for their love and support.
The legacy that Richard left for his family is rooted in selflessness and genuine caring and kindness for others.
